Well I have tried 4 boat trips and rather enjoyed them so I am off to Stranraer for the first week in June and intend to do mainly boat fishing. I have plenty of reels 7000's 9000's , Penn 535 and a couple of Shimano's but my only rod is a Shimano travel boat rod 20 - 30 lb. I rather like the action of the rod but a one or two piece I suspect would be rather better. I can spend £70 ish and any advice would be most welcome.

have a look at the web site on yer marks theres a page on their for the tackle you need depending on the fish your targeting, were up there end of june best boat fishing going

Alright there Terry, get yourself a Fladen Maxximus solid c 1 piece for under £70 loads of lads on here use them including me,theyre great rods and handle a lot of abuse. Ive got both 20/50 and 20/60lb class rods, have a look on tacklebargains web site and if you havnt read the earlier post for Keef B maybe keep away from marine megastore:mad:.

Good luck,
Russell

Thanks for the advice guys.
Would you advise a one piece 6 ft rod over a two piece one slightly longer one. Also I have seen advertised "green" and "red" in the same weight range. Other than the obvious any real difference ?

Ta in advance

TC

Thanks for all the advice. got a bid on Ebay at the moment but if unsuccessful I might just go to Billy's as I have £40 of Christmas vouchers for there.

Thank for all the advice I won an Ebay auction for the 20 - 40 lb rod that paul.longstaff told me about so I am ready for Stranrear !

go lighter

go lighter

take the 20 30lb class rod, but go lighter get a 12 20lb class perfect for the 7000 and excellent for lures like shads and jellies
