hi has anyone had problems with these reels ,ive only used mine twice and any weight goes onto reel it locks up meaning i have to pump the gear back

Yes mine does the same but had it over 2 years now, mine is due to wear on the brass plates inside, took it to a mate that services reels for some local shops But unless you been winding a cod up the cliffs or give it some stick then this should not have happened yet.

By any chance have you had the reel apart and put soem of the spring washers etc back the wrong way?

If still causing problems and its in good conditon on the outside, always worth given Abu a ring, i had a problem with a 7000 Ld last year, rang them up about the drag lever and they sent me a new drag system to fit for the price of the p&p £1.20 if i remember right.

Arkle, have heard of similar problems on the 7000 mag, in fact i have decided to take them off the shelves and return them to ABU as customers are slowly beginning to lose confidence in them.
I think the problem is the spool does not fit correctly (only my thoughts) they had a similar problem a number of years ago with the 7500 reels.
I would suggest you take it back to where you got it from and ask for a refund or replaced with another model.
