advice please

I have recently moved to newcastle and live in denton burn and have seen people fishing on the river tyne opposite the tank factory in blaydon and was just wondering if anyone can fish there or if you have to be part of a fishing club , also if it is free what sort of bait would I need and what would I expect to catch .

Not sure how far up the private water starts but have yourself a run further down to Scotswood riverside park. from there all the way down river fishes well for codling, whiting, flounders and eels. The most popular parts are next to tyhe Copthorn hotel, the Ouse burn, St. Peters basin, Walker riverside park/Pottery bank.

Worm baits are good this time of year (lug being proberbly the best) for codling
fresh crab during the summer months with daylight hours producing best, on small tides you can fish low to high, on the bigger tides fish 2 hours either side of high or low water as the tide pull can be to strong also on the bigger tidees you can get lots of debris in the river as the tice reaches high water.

Plenty flatfish up that way mate but as said if you can move down the river just towards the city centre then there are defo more species available to catch. Cop throne hotel would be an ideal spot. Railings, street lights and benches to sit on!

you can fish up past the tank factory but its best on high water as the level drops down a lot just mud banks.
there are some other good shots further down on the north side of the tyne
just ask some of the locals on nesa or sar they will help you out m8.
until you find your way around.

Thanks for all the help its most appreciated I am going to have a drive about today to find somewhere to have a days fishing tomorrow am thinking perhaps Copthorne or byker sort of area ..

As others have said, it starts to get really brackish that far up the river, dace and chub are regularly recorded down that far. If you encountered a particularly arsey bailiff you technically could be prosecuted for not having a licence but I've never heard of it happening as the first coarse fishing stretch is considered as the TAA bit owned by the council at Newburn.

don't need to take your licence m8 if you are stopped they can get on the info from there phones if you have a valid licence or not.

If your fishing anywhere that needs a licence you must always carry your rod licence or you could be prosecuted.
You only need a rod licence to fish for salmon, trout, freshwater fish, smelt and eel, flounder, codling and whiting aren't freshwater fish, as long as your not targeting freshwater fish then i would thought you can go as far up river as you like as long as there is no permit required to fish that stretch.I've heard of flounders as far up as Wylam but from around Newburn Country Park i think it becomes club/private water permits required

So on my second attempt I managed to catch a 3 and a half pound sea trout on a strip of mackerel . Which was released to fight another day ..
