advice please

i bought a 30lb to 40lb boat rod and a multiplier reel yesterday because i would like to try offshore fishing. the shop said to put on 50lb line, what do you think? and what tackle should i buy.
finally can anyone recommend a boat running out of hartlepool midweek. thanks

Yes 50Lb BRAID would be ok.

I am not 100% sure of the pool boats but a few worth a bash.

Fishing still not great at the moment but still a few smaller codling out there worth going for; for the reel start of boat fishing IMHO starts June.

Tackle wise, fill your boots really but try and keep it simple and cheap. I use a wide range of gear and traces but you can beat a simple 2-3 hook set of daylights with some mackerel, squid, rag,crab etc bait on.

For rough ground i go for a 2 hook flowing trace

you also have pirks or shads but i only use when the water cleaned up.
