advice please

i like to fish durhams free stretch of river anybody fish this part of the river this time of year.what can i expect to catch.
its fly fishing i will be doing not upto fishing in public yet so i go down to get a bit of practice.
any help would be appreciated.

fished river last nite other fly fisherman aswell.
brownie season is in so dont understand why it would be shut maybe your mistaken mate.

Hi terry,I have fished the free strech many of times but mainly coarse fishing.The rivers are open to game fish from march 23rd To october,and coarse fishing starts june 16th to february.You can only use fly and worm and spinners at the moment till the coarse season starts then maggot ground bait etc.
It is a cracking river for fly fishing aswell,it is also a very good strech for sea trout and salmon when conditions are right,there are some monsters in there,we have had good trout ,chub upto 6lb,huge salmon(which got off the last second,it was to big for my carp net)also seen massive pike,and barbel(wich i have never landed)Yet...

The coarse fishing closed season is upon us mate, June 16th is the official opening day.

Fly fishing is ok tho, strange but there you go.
