How much are these second hand or is it just worth getting one brand new wats the retail brand new

Stick with Penn all the way mate.....

Both the Penn 525 mag and the 535 are built like tanks, excellent quiality reels, cannot fault them (I have 6! :o, including a 535 mag for the rocks). They last a lifetime if cared for properly, and have solid metal spools.

Also have the added function of mag breaking and centrifugal breaking, so easy distances can be achieved once you've set it up properly for your casting speed, style etc... :)

You can get canny second hand ones in good condition for around the £50 the £80 bracket depending on the type for sale (525 mag, mag2, mag xtra, supermag, supermag xtra, etc, etc, etc...... ;))

I have had a Penn 535 and it's a real brute. Bought a slosh and used it a couple of times and its now on a well known auction site as of last nite. Had I done things the other way round I'm sure the penn would be on ebay. You get comfortable with something and its hard to change ( although we all try at great expense over the years lol. )There are so many reels my advice would be to pick a strong reel in your price range and stick with it. To throw another couple into the mix if you're looking for a budget mag the greys 7 at £59.99 or Okuma Magnetix 30 at a similar price are both steals. Tight Lines.

Can only offer advice on reels ive owned or have had the slosh 20 ideal line is 20lb slosh 30 ideal 30lb line as a rule of thumb so slosh 30 for heavy ground rock and cliff work and slosh 20 for beaches mixed ground.

I had my sloshs for a few years and gave them some abuse only thing that went went wrong with one was a collapsed bearing in the handle end bearing C on the schematics i think but thats nothing really to worry about and easily replaced.

Been using a Penn 535gs for the rough stuff and so far so good no problems.

The diawa slosh 30 and penn 535gs are both in your price range i would recommend these new unless you can get a minter second hand as you dont want to buy somebody elses problem.
