Anchor or Tilley
Anchor or Tilley
When you say anchor tilley lamp I take it you mean a tilley type lamp made by anchor. There are two ways to light these lamps, the first is by pouring meths into the horseshoe shaped cup that wraps around the feed pipe, fill this to the brim and while it is burning pump up your lamp till the pressure is at least half way on the guage, wait until the meths is nearly burnt out before turning the lamp on, if it flares up just turn it back off and then gently turn it on again, forget about getting it onto full flow immediately, if you can get the mantle to glow without excess burning around it then give it a minute to get really warmed up, after that you should be able to open it up full with no problems.
The second way to light them, and the easiest is to pump the lamp up to almost full pressure, strike a match and as you put it into the lamp turn on the injector, this will flare directly onto the mantle and the vapouriser, this uses alot of pressure so you may have to keep pumping as it's burning, after about thirty seconds try and turn the lamp on, remember if the lamp flares up switch it back off, it only does this if it's not hot enough, keep the injector burning until the lamp does light cleanly, as soon as it is lit shut off the injector. After that keep and eye on the pressure and keep pumping it up, once you have finished for the night release the pressure from the little knob on the filler cap and once the light has gone out then turn off the light at the main control.
If you are still getting bother PM me, I may be able to give you further advice.
