Another Peeler Question

I've never had any success in gathering Peelers (i live in the east Neuk of Fife). I'm back home after a long break and am determined to fish with them after seeing a lad next to me haul in fish after fish on peeler while I caught f**k all on lug. He wouldn't tell me where he got them from- nice bloke!

Do I just put a coupe of tyres out in a muddy area in between rocks or a muddy harbour mouth? If so how often to I check them? OR do you actually have to gather a load of hardbacks and keep them in a bucket with wet weed?

Any help at all would be awesome.

a muddy harbour mouth?
that sounds about the best idea when checking them pull off the end of the back leg if theres another soft body under there you have a peeler and if addiing tyres (crab shelters)in a row so theres no gap between them slash the side wall of them on on the top thats out the mud stops them floating off and will settle when filled with water when tide comes in (checking ) i would say every couple of tides

they can be and sometimes they can be better as they give a quiker release of sent so good for cocktails (i think)

Thanks Codseeker, thats great help. I'm not to sure where your on about when slashing though, do you mean as they lye flat slash the top (i.e the sides exposed when the wheels on)? I've got about six, reckon thats enough?

Fresh crab is almost always best lads. It lasts longer in the water than frozen. Frozen tho does out fish fresh in some places.

You want as many tyres as possible mate. The lads over here have hundreds each!

Don't by that frozen crab nuggets sh1te on line!

If your gong to buy frozen crab make sure its off someone you can rely on and the quality is good.

For Colies frozen will always out fish fresh and vice versa for codling. Fresh crab over the summer months some will say is a must esp in matches.

When it comes to october onwards the need for fresh doesn't really matter and frozen will take the majority of the fish.

Don't turn your back on the humble lug worm though. It has it's time and place.
