Anyone know, of someone selling there boat, we are thinking of upgrading wors. Looking to spend between 4 and 5k. Been looking on boats and outboards but been told of a few scams on there, so would rather find one through the lads who know.

Mark, you will find a better deal down south as there are a lot more boats for sale down there. If a good boat comes up for sale at this end of the country, it will be snapped up very quickly, so be prepared to travel for a good deal mate.

It will cos you but if you are unsure get a check done on it...boat version of a m.o.t test really...total guess at price but £250 should cover it i would think for a small boat.

Mine came from the south coast as lots more choice and cheaper but then you need to take the transport cost into account when getting her up her anything from £500-£1000 depending on size etc. Even if you do it on your own i guess the fuel would be about £140 round trip.

6M Quicksilver next to me for sale at the moment in the Royal Quays, just under 9k, a Arvor 18 for £14,500 i think and a few others also.

cheers for that pal. He has reduced the price on it for me but wants to do payment through ebay and a bank transfer. It looks a canny boat with a cracking engine, just a bit wary that's all don't fancy losing all wor dosh.

I think I'd be looking for a straight face to face exchange boat for cash Mark, safest way I would think

I agree, don't send any money to anyone without seeing and testing the boat out , too many fraudsters out there, if he's genuine, he should meet you at the boat and show you any paperwork he has for it , be careful ;)

It will be cheaper for him to e-mail from Nigerian than to ‘phone. I wouldn’t walk away from it, I’d runnnnnn!

Give it time and the right boat will turn up, though you may have to travel.
Good luck

Cheers kev, i think i will. just a nightmare just want a better boat and you would think these sites would be ok, just something doesn't seem right. I spoke to paul at warrior boats and it was him that told me to be aware as someone got scammed on there. Got me paranoid now:(

Fair enough being cautious when there’s a lot at stake. Sometimes the scammers lift the photo’s and details of genuine boats then post them as their own supposedly at a knock-down price. They then ask for western union deposits or send links to fake paypal accounts or claim to be working away ask to “pay” extra to cover shipping and that you refund any extra. Etc, etc.

When I was buying mine, one way to start weeding the scams out was to ask for specific photo’s. If the seller really had the boat and was keen to sell it they’ll happily take a close-up photo of whatever unusual angle or detail you ask. The scammers of course cannot do that so you’ll not get any pics.

The arvor mentioned earlier looks a canny boat from the outside there’s a few others on the broker’s RQ website too. Arvor18 2003 Day Boat For Sale in Newcastle - £14,950

Lady Linda a nice clean boat and its the same style as mkine but with a turbo fitted so abit faster.
Mine is for sale alot cheaper than that but not until September. As Kev says cast your eye over the Royal Quays sales, a few boats around your price range but most alot more.

It's a minefield out there.............

I think you are wise to be careful as I bought my boat in January this year and came across a many scams on various websites. One piece of advice is to look for a similar boat and cross check the asking price. If it seems to good to be true it probably is :o

I saw a warning about scams where people have sold boats off the owners drive, whilst the owner was at work, pretending to be the owner. If you do go to someone's house and they keep you outside all of the time ask to use the toilet.

As previously said photos, paperwork, direct phone calls all good indicators of whether it is genuine and a genuine buyer shouldn't mind you going to see the boat. If possible insist on the a sea trial before paying. The problem with paying into the buyers e-bay/Paypal accounts is they will send you a link to a scam website and they will get your passwords as well!!

Just be careful and I hope you get the boat you want.
