Ardnamurchan ??

Hi,
I'm going to the Ardnamurchan region at the beginning of June, and I'm wondering if anyone has fished this area before. Any help with marks, species, tides baits etc would be hugely appreciated.

Lovely part of the world if the weather is good.

I am no expert, although we have fished a couple of times about 3 or so years back, at the southern points of Ardnamurchan.

You will struggle to buy bait anywhere nearby, in fact you can't really. You can dig worms though, or collect mussels/cockles or catch some mackerel.

There are loads of lovely beaches and rock marks around the coastline. The choice is incredible, as is the scenery. We had no plan, just drove around and tried places we thought might produce. We had pollock, wrasse and flatties, nothing big, maybe a 3lb pollack was the biggest. Supposedly it is decent for sea trout, but we didn't catch any. We did watch a pair of sea eagles catching loads more fish than us though! Also saw dolphins, porpoises and a couple of pilot whales.

You can take the ferry from Kilchoan to Tobermory on Mull. There are apparently good marks on Mull for pollack, try Calgary bay or Callanch Point.

Boat trips are really geared to the sealife watching and prices to charter a boat are really expensive compared to where you live. Frankly it isn't worth the money, as the fishing doesn't merit a boat trip, unless you want to try for huge common skate. Not my idea of fun, but plenty enjoy it.

i think your nearest tackle shop will be fortwilliams rod and gun shop tel01397702656. not that nearand probably dont sell fresh bait,you could ring them i guess,im heading norf myself on june first onto rannoch moor,for a bit of troot an pike fashin,

Yup midges are hell. Forget any potions, a hat with a net is the only answer!

Nice salmon fishing on Loch Shiel too.
