Early start for us yesterday, meeting at the compound at 3:15 and heading down to Amble for 4AM
Testing both engines before launch, we had an issue with the throttle on the little merc 110, so we didn't get fishing until around 7AM
We headed out and turned towards our favoured rough ground spot 4-5 miles off Hauxley. See was flat calm early on.
Fishing was slow to start off, with mainly small codling and coalies showing, but after the sun made an appearance, we started to find a better stamp of fish.
We took about a dozen cod to 9lb, returning countless up to the 3lb mark
Also a couple of sizeable pollack and half dozen mackerel for the pot.
Signs of a bit mist and a little chop after lunch, but nothing uncomfortable.
All in all a good day. Throttle to sort this week and also need to refix the transducer, which we managed to knock off on launch.
We always seem to come back with something on our joblist, but nothing that's going to break the bank. On a plus note, using the small engine to do our tooting ariund between drifts meant we kept fuel costs down to around a tanner!!!
No fish pics, but will get some next time
