A friend broke the tip of his SS, he contacted N E T S (Ryhope) and spoke to the shop manager Gary Pye who told him he could get him a replacement for £180, this seemed a bit expensive so my friend contacted Century directly and explained what had happened. Century agreed to replace a new tip section fully whipped for the price of £82!!,..... seems to me that on top of the profit made from the original sale they also wanted a very nice profit from my friends misfortune.

rule of thumb has always been a tip is half the price of a new rod, maybe gary pulled the figure off the top of his head and didnt contact century to confirm first ???

thats a fair comment marco the shop has administration costs to factor in, manager's time, monthly target's to hit.bonus's and the like's,man carn't live on bread alone mr berry:);)

I dont see what all the fuss is about. He said he took his tip to the factory and they used the rings from it to build the new tip and he said it came to 98pound. Without using the old rings im guessing it would of cost around 120 depending on the rings used. Thats a 50% profit for the shop, which im guessing they make on most rods.
