At 6.30am I left home with the sea looking quite flat but when I arrived at the marina the flags were blowing hard. I gave serious consideration to heading back home but my berth neighbour (Barbara Ann) was ready to set off so I cadged a lift in the knowledge that it would be more comfortable on a bigger vessel.
The drift was very fast, the fishing was poor, the wind was freshening, the sea was horrible and two of the lads were feeling sick.
At slack water we suddenly hit a purple patch when we landed approx 30 cod to 5lb and the sea sickness vanished!!! However, when the tide turned the fishing went off and the previous conditions returned. We called it a day and headed home (much to the relief of the two sea sick sufferers).

Well done on venturing out, at least you's hit into the fish eventually, makes it worthwhile.

well done on getting out and into some fish,i headed down there at 5.30 this morning but turned back after seen those swells,its enough to bring any ale back from the night before.

Yep, it's the swells that do it for me!! I can live with a choppy sea but I'm in trouble with a steady swell and deep troughs although another major factor is exhaust fumes and/or fuel vapour especially two stroke mix.
What I didn't mention in the catch report and I concur with Norman, was the number of fish showing on the finder, there are fish at all depths and whilst many near the top maybe mackerel, I am also seeing some big fish off the bottom around a third way up. I thought they may be pollack but not a touch when I dropped a shad amongst them.

well done mate, great catch. Strange how at the moment best catches seem to be over slack water (both high and low) and not as normal when the tide start to run.....
Also reference the sounder I think we're seeing for the first time the mythical feature that appears always on every demo run but rarely in reality "the fish arch" I'm sure I've seen some decent ones recently ..

i know what you mean about the demo's norman, thay always look great to ,but all i get on mine(this is on three sounders i have had on seperate boats) is dots and clouds of dots where i think its a shoal,i have never had an arch yet,maybe i might have to update to a colour one,any ideas on a good purchace for reasonable money,cheers ian,quote: plus i always set my souner to the arch settings.
