Beacons Blank

So second last day of the holiday and Lynn in bed until stupid o'clock nursing last night's hangover, probably because we went to the pub at 230pm, after out charter was aborted, due to wind and unpleasant swell at midday yesterday.

We eventually got out around 1pm this afternoon for a wee trip to Asda in Ashington and to meet Eurothumpers. Nice to meet you Mick. :)

Shopping done, coffee pit stop at Endeavour cafe at Newbiggin and back to the caravan, by this time the wind had died, the rain had gone off and I tied a few basic rigs with small hooks as advised.

We tried the Beacons just by the church. Unfortunately I left my phone and camera back at the van, so was confident of catching something at last! Lynn had her own rod now, as I bought one from Stevie-r so thankfully I now had mine to myself.

Ragworm we bought on Wednesday AND last Saturday were still alive!!! So keeping them in the paper and a plastic bag and placing them under the van obviously works somehow?

First two casts, I had taps on the rod, struck and seemed to have fish on both times, but also got snagged on the way in both times and lost the lot!

Finally Lynn was set up, about 20 mins after me and first cast she had a crack off! Ha! So now we were down to our last two weights. Yes we were under-prepared! So eventually we both got back in the water and I was feeling very confident, but I did not get another bite in the next hour and a half. Lynn after 10 mins reeled in (all of about 30 yards) as she thought she had a small fish on. No what she had on was the hook and sinker from her crack off!! You couldn't make this stuff up. So although she caught nothing, she still managed to be the jammiest woman in the world!

Couple of pics taken back at the van as I have none of the wee session.

Note how calm the sea is.............Typical !!!!!

It was a very pleasant two hours though, with no wind and compared to the rest of the week, quite warm. Last chance saloon tomorrow...........Watch this space! Any thoughts of a mark to try, gratefully received.

Is the fishing good there Chris?

We are planning a Norway trip. Surely even I can catch over there!! :o

Most catch crabs in Benidorm...:D

I will agree there Mark, you and Lynne will enjoy Norway, the reports are excellent, when are you going..

Haha, good one Chris. :D

We are looking at the 4th of July ish onward for a week. We can get it for £350 for the accommodation and boat for 7 nights. Add flights of course, but we need another two to join us, otherwise the price goes up quite a bit.

That's what I thought Chris!

Anyway, we need to try and get a shore session in tomorrow, catch a fish or two and leave for home on Sunday a bit happier.

Then concentrate on getting gear sorted for our Whitby extravaganza in July. Four charters, 11 days, and a chance of the top prize!...............OK maybe not!! :)

You know I have just gone out on the verandah for a cigarette and for the first time in 9 days there is no wind, I was just in a jumper and it wasn't cold and the sea is so calm, the lights are reflecting off it. Maybe we should throw a sickie and start fresh tomorrow for another week's holiday!

Norway will provide the fishing you need mark...

I remember working there in 1998..mongstadt..after work straight down to the fjord and catching suicidal cod...:D

I think you would be a lot happier and most likely more productive holidaying there...but if you do blank there. i'd take up domino's for a hobby...

good luck for Whitby ...;)

we're there 23rd June...

just seen the thrashing bit.......:D

Who are you out with Rob? We are on Trot On(cat), Charisma, Mistress and Avante. Maybe Shy Torque as well.

I will do fine in Whitby I think, I can feel it! :)
