Going to haggerston castle for a week in a couple of weeks time and was thinking about taking my gear to do a bit fishing. Anyone got any info for me please? Thanks.

Sean.

Like everywhere just now mate, not a great deal happening. Things will pick up when sea heats up a bit and when crabs start to peel.

My advice to you would be use light gear, 2 or 3 hook flapper or 1 up 1 down rigs with size 2,1, or 1/0 hooks, fish or worm or both for bait.

You can catch flatties from any of the beaches in the area - Cocklawburn, Cheswick, Goswick, Spittal, Berwick all good beaches. Personally I prefer Spittal. Check it out at low tide and fish it on the flood. Or fish the estuary

You could also head up to Eyemouth and have a shot off the rocks, you never know what might turn up. Rockling, Sea Scorpion……

Not much about Sean but usual for the area ... Small codling coalie rockling etc from the rocks, flatties off the beaches. Stayed at haggy a couple of times a year with family until I was about 20 so plenty of sessions! Best of luck!

It's been years since I was at Haggerston but I know the lake had a really good population of eels. Also some pike as I remember. There was also a small steam running along the side of a field across the way which had some decent coarse fish in. Can't remember what exactly but maybe roach or chub.
If you blank at sea that's as good an option as any as long as you have a licence and aren't trespassing on someone's field.

When exactly u going? I'm up end of may so will be heading to st abbs at least once weather permitting in hope of a pollock or kelpy
