Blyth Beach 8/1/10

fished 1hr down, 4hrs up. 1st three casts caught 6oz, 8oz, then 4.76lb cod and all in daylight.
Took Williewetegg's advice used lug and thanks to him caught my biggest fish for a long while.
Strangely enough once it got dark and tide turned didn't get another bite, although mate got two very small codling again using lug. Other mate using rag never got a bite during whole session. thanks Willie for your advice.
The cod was returned as I already had two fillets in freezer so its there for someone else to catch.
good hunting

Well done Gerry, pleased you caught a goodun mate. You have done better than me in the daylight too, I,ve never had any Codling during the day that were anywhere near size. I've always found Lugworm the best bait by far but sometimes it can work well with Ragworm, Razorfish or Mussel. My mate swore by frozen Sandeels tied onto the tip and did well with them, I never had a single fish using them there lol.

Was it the north end you fished?

Jim.

:)Nice one Gerry, a good report for Blyth m8!, r u the Gerry I was talking to back in the late summer on the pier?, and also if its ok wiv you, could you tell us which area you fished without being to specific, cheers!!!:D

I think I'll stick to lug on this beach. To test your advice I used two hook 1up, one down and alternated baits on each cast. Lug did the damage. I also had rag, razor and sprat. The cod I caught was full of small fish, I think sprats.
I fished about 50yds to right of pipe on north end. as we left about another 6 anglers had just started fishing same area on both sides of pipe.

sorry mate , no it wouldn't have been me I really only just started fishing again about Nov after about 10/12year absence.

I've caught fish both sides of the pipe but my favourite spot used to be about thirty to fifty yards south of the pipe, straight down from the metal posts. I can't remember any really good fish but lots between 2 lb and 4 1/2 lb with only the very odd one bigger than that. My better fish from the beach nearly all came from the south end.

It doesn't surprise me at all that u caught fish in daylight off that beach mate. Can't see why not myself if the conditions are right.

Daylight fishng is ****full at the best of times anywhere (esp at the mo). If u put 20-30 anglers on a rock end you might be lucky to see a fish pulled out.

Put them anglers spaced along the beach and i would think someone would catch a codling or more!

Just my opinion.

You could be dead right Cod,cod, cod, I can only go by my own experiences of fishing that beach as I said on the other thread this was mentioned on.

One of my favourite sayings on that beach used to come after dark, "The tip lights are on we will catch fish now" lol. There were quite a few times when there would be quite a few anglers along the pipe area and not a fish between us until after dark.

As I said to Gerry he has done better than me during daylight on there. If I was going fishing during the day Blyth beach wouldn't even be on my list of where to fish.

But again it is the same as you, just my opinion.

Jim.

I'm not saying it's better/same in darkness. When the lights are turned off on most venues the fishing often improves greatly.

I fished a venue today with about 20plus good anglers fishing it cos it had fished the night before. 1 fish between us all. Total crap. This lads went on Blyth beach and prob was the only angler on there and caught a decent codling.

I bet if all of us were stretched along Blyth beach we would have caught more codling. Just a thought.

Anyway Gerry, Well done mate for giving it ago and catching!
