Blyth beach

I couldn’t find the feature that Billfish had told me of when I walked the area he mentioned so decided to fish old faithful last night, to the left of the pipe.
Half decent sea on, 3/4 rollers, as soon as the bait hit the water I started to get bites.
Some rattling and some very tentative.
Within the first hour and a half I had three small codling, all around the pound mark and lost a much better fish that hung me up on the pipe, tried all ways to get it out but in the end I had to pull for a break and lost the lot.
Tied on another shock leader and away I went again.
As the tide peaked at 5.30 the sea started to die down and the bites lessened.
Still got a couple of whiting but very small, also managed to get soaked when a rogue wave caught me mid cast.
One soaked crotch, must buy some chest waders.
Anyway I stayed till about 7.30 but as the bites had gone and my feet were frozen after my waders were filled with seawater I packed in.
Best combo of bait for the cod as lug, squid and mussel.
They all came from long range, well my long range.
Not a bad night apart from the soaking.

well done mate, bit annoying as i aint caught a cod from blyth beach , i fish beside the pipe when i go and use mussel, squid, lug, razor and never have any luck for cod , only coalies and whiten and thats rare :( i always talk to the angler beside me and they say cod was caught last night ( always the day after or before i go down there) some time soon i hope i am there when the cod is there.

Still nice to hear that cod is still getting caught at the local beach tho :D

Great report, a nice bit of action to keep you on your toes , even if the big one evaded you this time, and well done on braving that cold.
