Fished the pier yesterday from about 12:30 until about 6pm.

Had debated getting some bait on Saturday but didn't bother, thinking we had a lot to do over the weekend. Well with the drizzle Sunday morning we only did a bit shopping. Got to the bait shop just before closing time and there was no live bait so picked up a pack of runnydown, knowing I had razor in the freezer already. I've never been one for frozen baits so had never used runnydown in all my years, but I've got to say I was quite impressed - big worms, stayed on the hook no bother and certainly did the job, actually think they were better value than live for what I got.

Very slow despite constant bites from the moment the first rod was cast out. Had a very tiny coalfish early on, more non-stop knocks and eventually a crab added to the tally, lol, was constantly debating packing in for an hour or so when it started getting dark. Another set of little rattles and I picked one of the rods up to fetch it in and head home as it rattled then bang something bigger hit it - nothing of real stamp, but a nice codling of about 1.5lb was on the end.

Didn't see anything else caught and a pier full of guys were leaving in a constant stream while I was there. Pulling out of the carpark a few were arriving and heading to the beach, including codman40 - nice to meet you mate, hope you had some luck. Mentioned he'd seen a couple of Ray's Bream on the beach and oddly I had aswell - Saturday morning walking the dogs we found one near the pier, missus got a pic on her phone that I'll post when she sends it through.

welldone for gettin even a small codling mate, as u were leavin a was jst pullin in to car park,

A only stayed for bout hour and a half, few bites resulted in a rocklin.

was certainly very slow and hard going, got some bait left so I'm debating where to head tonite, will just be an hour or so though.

if rays are like the black bream i have taken over the years they are best fished for with small hooks, fish bait and over mussel beds

Me and a mate fished blyth pier last night aswell from 7pm to 11pm and drew a complete blank, its so frustrating:casstet: but you got to try and it beats sitting in the house.

I seen 3 at Shields on Sunday also, this lad was claiming he had caught 2 next to his seat box, he must of been there all day as they looked like they had been dead four at least 1 day.

Must be loads out there mind as i how now seen over 10 on our beaches and everyone seeing them washed up.
