Well-known member
Well just got back from blyth pier and what a night.
Got down there for 3.30ish and the people coming
off were all saying that there was nowt doing but i
still gave it a bash. The sea was running well deispite
the wind from the south/south east so set my rod 20yds
down from the end and had my first cast' only in water
10mins and tap tap only to find a small rockling on the
end. 2-3hrs past and nowt then as some lads next to
me were packing up i pulled in a small codling 10oz or so.
I had just cast back out when some lad came down from the
end on his way off and told me that a bloke had just
lost a good double figure cod as he went to hand ball it
up the side' two cast's later and that bloke was on his
way off and you could tell by the look in his face that
he was gutted but he still had a fish of 3lb in the bag
so not all was lost.

All in all there was some good fish on the pier the night
just wished i could have stoped longer and i might have
had a good size fish but as always the bate ran out and
the belly was rumbling for some food:D

Oh nice to chat with the lads from south shields
well think thats where they where from.

Nice report CODBOY and not all in vane you didn't blank :D Well Done mate and thanx for sharing your experience with us all.

fished the pier today from 3 til 7 the worst day i have ever had on there it fished better saturday on a flat sea

id love to know how many big fish are lost, from marks like blyth, tynemouth, roker every winter, some good fish, ive lost a couple myself, why dont we use drop nets, quite simple to make, even an adapted course fishing landing net better than nothing, maybe we think were not the one to get the big one,or in my experience, have carried a net but the big one was not there, added baggage.what a shame for the unlucky angler.

totally agree ,i was looking at them in id fishing and they start at a tenner , i read if you use one put a stone in in to get it down quicker and keep it from blowing about .

Most times on Blyth if someone has a big one on then he walk it to the beach and lands it there.
Others simply reel in to let him by.
