when you dig do you follow the tide down for an hour before low water

if digging for lug and the tides are huge ya will get at them a couple hours before where ya see the worm casts and an hour or so flooding

You'll still get a few worms at the middens, but it does get a hammering - mostly rag worm, if my memory is correct lol I think the largest rag worm found came from there years ago.

As for the boat station, it still produces a few lug, but it seems to be affected a lot by how much sand has been dumped there by the seas, and digging is often difficult due to all the buried rocks & boulders; last time I was there I was forever bending & having to straighten out my fork. Years ago I used to find the best results were had by "scratching" in amongst the rocks. I don't know if you're familiar with the technique, but it involves getting down on your knees & raking away in the patches of shallow sand around & under the boulders that litter the areas around the sandier patches. I've long since lost my scratching tool, but you want a small draw hoe with a handle about 18 inches long something like this:

Then it's just a case of raking away to expose the worms - in amongst the rocks they aren't very deep, but you'll probably cut a few more than you would digging. I always used to manage enough for 2 or 3 sessions in return for an hour or two's effort.

Gary :)
