Hi.
Can anyone give me advice on boat insurance, it is a minefield, worse than house insurance! Rates and cover vary so much. Anyone got good value for money insurance cover? What is the cost? Is it 3rd party or fully comp? Etc.etc.
Thanks

I'm with Porthcawl insurance in Wales, Tel. 01656 784866. I pay £125. pa. for my Reiver /outboards and gear. I think it's fully comp without digging the policy out. Been with them for years.

Hi mate,if you ring westland insurance in Houghton le Spring they will put you on the right track,Found them brilliant and very reasonable.
Hope this is of some help.

I am with Porthcawl and cannot fault them, But beware which insureance you are with as some only cover small boats from departure point and there are lots of others who have small print which covers virtually nothing.

I now have 40 miles from a safe haven with 30k worth of cover for £150 so not bad at all

My mate checked his policy the other year and he was only covered for 3 miles from point of departure he went with porthcawl and got 20 miles from land which is ok, the biggest problem is when something goes wrong and you have to hit the dsc button and it tracks you where you were and that is what the insurance would ask for and if you were a meter out i bet they wouldnt pay out.
