Boat Naming Superstition.

Has anyone re-named their boat while it has still been afloat. I've heard the superstitions involved with doing this . You supposedly have to do this while on dry land but dont really fancy taking it out the water just to put a couple of stickers on it. Is it just mumbo jumbo or are us boat owners a superstitious lot. I'm expecting some different views on this one....
I reckon Sh!t Happens new stickers or not...

Mess with the sea gods :o .......... not me , I'll break mirrors , walk under ladders , step on the cracks in the pavement and shoot black cats (only kidding about the last one if any fur huggers are reading :D) , but no bananas allowed on my boat and no whistling , just wine and naked wmen ............and the name stays the same ............. in fact I'm calling my next boat ........... ELEDA :)
I know the name shouldn't end in an A , but it's spelled backwards so I'm hoping that's o.k. :red:

im with you you on this ray.i dont have a boat, but if i did theres no way,in or out of the water would i change a name:)

Come on lads , I take bananas on board, whistle and the boats name ends in an A. I should have been sunk years ago. The reason i whistle on board is i get too many complaints if i sing.... If you google the superstitious things involved with fishing and believed them, i dont think we would leave shore.

Yeah! , I know all that man.......... but if I don't believe in the bananas , and whistling , how am I going to explain the naked women??? :D

Ray, Just tell the missus it's unlucky NOT to take naked women onto boats, i'm sure she'll believe you ;). Nice thought that, but we would'nt get much fishing done would we.....:D:D.
TGW i read the link on your previous post and its interesting to know how much champagne people waste  Thats some ritual to go through, i'd feel a bit of a prat chanting rituals and throwing champers about on the pontoon:eek: so i'll wait till the boat comes out for anti fouling and when its tucked away in the compound, i'll do it then...;).

Difficult one Chris, I'm not at all supersticious and changed the name on my boat soon after I bought it. Well, you know the probs i'm having with my motor, they're still on going. Powerhouse marine has had it now for 5 weeks, and I don't think they're any closer to fixing it. So, whadaya reckon:confused::confused::confused: What are you changing the name too, or is that tempting fate...................hmmmmmmmmmmmm

Hi Arthur, I'm changing the name to Jester same as the Reiver i had. I'm not superstitious either and reckon things go wrong with boats without changing the name. How many people buy boats, dont change names, then spend a fortune cos someone's sold them a dud. I think when things go wrong we all look for something or someone to blame, but i guess sh!t happens.....
Sorry to hear you are still having problems with the engine mate, must be a head scratcher for them to have it 5 weeks.
Are you going to the boat show this weekend mate.......

Yes Chris, not sure which day. what day are you going etc;.Powerhouse say they have eliminated the prob down to two things, both under the flywheel, one part costing £150., the other £450. plus fitting, testing etc:, fingers crossed:rolleyes::rolleyes:

Jesus :o thats a canny bill mate, like Norman says maybe its time to get a new motor, or try someone else for a second opinion. Think i'll be at the show on Saturday morning or Sunday morning, the weather looks good for a spot of uptiding on Saturday.....:)
