Hi guys, having spoken to a few lads about braid im thinking it could be the way to go when lure fishing..... but i need a little guidence.

I usually spin with 8lb-12lb main line and a shock leader.... how do the braid diameters and kilos stack up and what should i be looking for?

Cheese,

Marc

I use Whiplash Crystal 30lb for spinning for salmon. It has the same diameter as 6lb mono and it white so its easy to see.It also comes in Fire orange colour.
Its the thinnest braid diameter to strength on the market and not too expensive.
Used with a 3ft 15lb mono leader joined with a small swivel,no need for a shock leader unless your casting owt heavier than 3 ounce.

Braid will not cast further than the mono you have unless its below 20lb! I use 30lb powerpro and it casts about the same as 15lb mono.

The difference is that you have direct contact to your lure so you can feel more. Its brilliant for pulling through weed but you do need to be careful not to tare the hooks out of fishes mouths. It can also be a pain if fishing in a crowded space so stay away from the mackerel numpties or say bye bye to £20-30 of decent braid!

You still need a short mono leader to stop your lure turning over and snagging in the braid!

You need a decent fixed spool and make sure you put it on under pressure and don't overfill your reel or you will get windknots when casting.

Had braid on for two weeks now great for float fishing and casts good for spinning the problems arise when you get tangled with another angler tried for 20 mins to untangle the line to no avail lost about 40 yards I can see the a peel of braid for boat angling but for shore its more hassle than enough
