took the boat for a run out today with jim (north star ) as normal crew were busy with other things, skipper really helpfull showing me where and how to fish properly :rolleyes:

weather and sea were decent but temp was f** freezing

headed up to some ground about half a mile offshore, (blackhall/horden) anchored up and Jim was into the usual whities, some decent sizes, i had a bit of trouble locating and attracting fish to my baited hooks, but as jim pointed out,it was sooo easy to catch them if you knew what you were doing......

had about an hour of this before it went quiet, so decided to head back down towards hartlepool, but maintaining the inshore distance, anchored again but nothing of size getting caught, so again moved closer towards home, getting colder, feet freezing ...and Jim catching more whiting...:(

i'm thinking that i'm going to blank today......(dam Jesters reel, its a jonah)

1 cod .....please god......

then......rod....thump... i'm on !..... thank you god....

Great report Rob and a big well done to you and Jim :). They all look a good stamp of fish, the boat looks great as well. I reckon you owe me fish and chips mate :D;)

Cracking report with some quality fish, we're you's up tiding or straight over the side? Just up tiding is something I fancy giving a go to but I have never had a go before and a but weary about what kind of ground to try etc!

you can get really technical about this up and down tiding lark, i'm sure you'll get a few replies telling you how to exactly do it

the way i see it is....you fish as you would from shore with bait.....

with the boat at anchor....over any ground where you think the fish are (fishfinder )

our tactics yesterday varied between straight down with baited hokies and casting away from the boat with bait

simples....kind of..

The point of uptiding whilst at anchor is that your bait is away from the boat and any noise caused on the boat while at anchor in shallow water, you cast your bait uptide from the boat ( towards the anchor ) and let out enough slack line so your line is at 90 degrees to the boat, the fish picks up the bait and runs downtide resulting in your rod tip springing back, like a slackliner..........I think.....:D;)

Nice report rob, good to see fish like that at this time of year ....
keep it up mate cheers,

ps great pictures !

Great read :) so nice to read a catch report , i must try this fishing lark some day :D
WD40 , I believe is made from fish oils , so it should in theory be a good attractor :)

Your right about the cold but you did have the hot drinks sorted no complaints their don't know why you didn't think of that before. You forgot to mention the very near collision at sea i think i would have headed for home once i got the engine started that is i can't believe people go to sea in a speed boat and tracksuits in this weather i hope the fish they might have caught were worth it. Bit turned out to be a good day cheers Rob

i thought i'd just leave that be....

i could of got some pictures of it if i wasn't trying to stop the speed boat from colliding with us.....using my feet...

Excellent report and photo's. Boat and outboard outfit looks superb. Reading your report, do you launch and recover on the ramp.
Well done on the catch and braving the cold. At least it's warming up a bit this week so, once i've sorted my trailer, I may get out for a couple of hours,
