Hi,
I already have a SL30SH but I'm also getting a SL20SH, cos I love the SL30SH and I remember Greggthe1 saying in a post "Try getting 2nd hand 20 and 30 and you will be sorted for all your fishing needs."

Just wondering what the major differences are bewteen the two, cant find anything on the web, just keeps bringing up the same description which covers both of them.

I've never used a slosh 30 so can't comment on the reel itself - but basically the size 30 compared to the 20 is a bigger reel better suited to heavier beach/rock work...load it with 30lb+ line straight through and you're away

The slosh 20 (which I do have) is a great reel for the beach - much smaller than the 30 and I personally load mine with 20lb Ultima and a 60lb shockleader

Very forgiving reel for the novice caster IMO and I would recommend getting one - in fact I'm going to get a second at some point ;):)
 
The only difference is the size, they are both very robust reels, the 30 geared more for heavy ground fishing and big enough to take a good amount of strong line, the 20 is the smaller of the two as the number suggests and is more suited to using lighter line for cleaner ground work and greater casting distance. Thats what I use mine for anyway.

If you get both reels then you have got a reel for every occasion, possibly not the best reels in the world, but a good robust and reliable pair of reels that will suit any fishing occasion.
 
its all about spool size, the 20 has a smaller spool, you should be looking to put around about 15lb lin on for clean beaches. If you load it up with anything like 30lb you'll find you enpty the spool when you cast because it cant hold enough line. The 30 has a larger spool, this means you can load it up with 30-40lb line no problem.

So now your asking why not just have the 30 and not bother with the 20!

You'll get a better casting distance with the 20 loaded up with 15ld line and a good shockleader, the smaller line on the smaller spool will run off easier than the 30 - 40lb on the 30, and if you put 15lb on the 30 you find it runs off to fast and you'll nest all the time.

were much better made
have a look at the frame on the new ones
you will see a hole where self tapping screws hold everything together
on the old ones they were machine screwed together
i wouldnt part with mine

Had my sl30sh about 5 yrs now and as jimbob says,they are capable of good distance casting,biggest fish i had on was 11lb 2oz cod from the south shelf of the wherry at whitburn,pulled it through the rocks and kelp no probs,and i still aint had a problem with that reel,i did have a sl30shv about 18mnths ago,and i thought it was pretty crap for the fishing i do,IMO it cant compete with the older sl30sh
