Put the boat into RQ's today and have to go up there tomorrow to fit a float switch to the bilge pump.

This has prompted me to try and complete all sorts of litle jobs that just kinda never got done and as I have sat here making a list its obvious I have a busy day ahead.

Totally rewire the dashboard...I have some new fuse boards which are ideal.

Fit a seperate feed for the radio...the fishfinder interferes with it at present. I might even try and link the radio to the gps...another thing I have been meanig to do for over three years...and that radio message is annoying "Caution your position is over 3 hours old"...I do wonder at times that if I pressed the red button I do wonder if it would send out a message saying " I am located in a warehouse in Taiwan"

Fit battery Isolator/selector.

T Cut out a mark in the shape of a stanley knife blade that was allowed to rust on the gunnels...its only been there 3 years :)

May as well pressure wash the whole thing while I am at it.

Fit the arial for the plotter correctly...you know what its like when you want to try out a new toy...you cobble it together..go out and try it...but I never got round to tidying up the installation.

And finally move the presstuds for the cover...two of them have never fitted...only been like that for three years.

Like I said... a busy day.

Hmmm...not saturday...

Kinda narrows things down a bit:p

I seem to have got motivated to do many things I have been promising I would do for ages. When I first bought the boat there were major balance problems. I went some way to rectifying this by moving the batteries over to the other side. But now its sat in calm water it is obvious this was on;ly part of the problem. The boat is bow heavy. The water does not drain to the sump. I need to move weight towards the blunt bit to make the deck drain.

Anyone got any comments about how dry batteries need to be...if I put them at the back they will get spray on them...is this ok or should I cover them...and if so does it need to be waterproof or would splash proof do?

There is also a problem with the charging of the batteries. I use a split relay charge and its worked well...but the solar panel can only charge one or the other with the existing wiring..I need to come up with a way to use the solar panel to charge both batteries with the ignition off...that will need some sober thinking but it must be possible to have both options because there is no way I would remember to move an isolator switch every time I stop.

But on the plus side the boat is cleaner than when I bought it...back up tomorrow and cant wait for the sea to drop so I can actually get out.

Ohh...BTW ...where is the nearest tackle shop to the RQ's?

how I got around the 2 battery problem with the solar panel was simply, a short pair of leads to connect the batteries together, when the isolator is in the off position (think mini jump leads) just un clip em when you go out

you got doel fins on the motor?? might make a huge difference, found they help you climb out of the hole onto the plane much quicker, rids more level and higher at the transom when planing, and added a wee bit economy fuel wise, got an old pair in the shed if you wanna give em a try

my last boat I got a pair of cheap small curver stacking boxes with lids, £3 each at B&Q, siliconed them to the cockpit floor under the transom!!
 
on my berth Norman, I sold the boat, (went to Ireland this morning!) was gonna put the other boat on there, but, long story cut short Dave's boats on there (might as well - its paid up till april!)

Not likely to use mine till next year so can tinker at home, berth gets used, everyones a winner!!
 
Went down today about lunchtime. I needed to measure the clearance under the transom and the dimmensions of the batteries...next stop poundstretcher for a box.

Moving the batteries has prompted me to do a total re wire and I think I have an idea to incorporate a solar panel and a split charge circuit.

So measurements taken ...rods on board...went to have a look at the sea...THAT was rough.

So i chucked the pick down about 20 yards east of the wave break by the NS fish quay.

First chuck with worm/mussel combo...a little codling just under 2 lb. good start :D

But that was it...not another bite. Waited till dark but the crabs were having a field day. I dont know the size limits for edibles but I am sure I could have kept a couple of them.

The good news...not a whiting to be seen although the shore guys were catching plenty on saturday just between RQ's and Smiths dock.

Left at bang on high tide with the sea piling over the north pier...it will be a few days before we can get out.

One more question...now I have the boat in the RQ's ...is it compulsory to drink red wine when at sea?

Should be coming down to the RQ's one afternoon this week with Dave the owner of the Majenka to carry out some of those jobs which you rightly point out "never get done".
One of the most urgent jobs on the agenda is to secure the netty from flying out of the cubicle into the galley went hit by a side wave. Luckily no one had had a number 2 jobby that day or i would have abandoned ship.

Just spotted this post late - dammit :p otherwise I would have been straight down Dave for the whole weekend :D . If you need a hand getting it out me and jeff will help. Jeff can take the boat end and I'll take care of comms.

I knew I should have come! But then again I would have missed Geordie catching a skiddly biddly weird fish with his bare hands, turning round with a mad look shining through his one remaining lense, looking like something out of a late middle aged version of "Lord of the Flies" and the terror I felt seeing his mouth open fully to reveal a "maw" that would have Quint diving over board. Jeez I'm a shaking all over - could drive a man to drink, or Wales :yltype:
 
all I'm saying is that is it now apparently, an offence in our wonderful country to be in possession of more than £1000 in cash

add that to one of our boys in blue about to enter the worlds largest deep fried potato balanced on your shoulder who hasn't probably had a shag in years and you get an interesting 'exchange'

Carrying cash is like trrying to open a bank account...you have to be accompanied by both your parents and still have id.

You would think it would be simple to walk into a bank and say can we change this savings account into a current account...but oh no ...its not that simple.

I now have the battery box and all bits needed.

Tomorrow I am down south in a meeting with defra and friday my accountants...seems I owe some tax!!!!!

But saturday and sunday will be mornings working and afternoon heading to sea and check things are working right ;)

Subject of course to the weather.

when its ready for fishing me and the gf will come for a trip :) I used to go fishing every weekend as a kid (piers/boats/beach) and then stopped for like 15 years so i'm really glad i started again, only problem i dont know anyone that goes fishing also :P
