Buying Lead - ID Required

Just a heads-up lads if you’re planning to visit the scrappy soon. I bought some lead today at the usual yard and had to show photo ID and give my address. Not a problem as I had just been to collect a parcel and had my driver’s licence with me for that. It’s all gone very professional, I even got a VAT receipt.
They seem to be taking metal theft seriously and I hope the extra paperwork helps.
£1.45/kg before anyone asks.

emmm should it not be ultimately more important to give id to SELL lead? if ya buying lead how likely are you to also steal ....but if ur selling........my two pence worth.....

just had my roof replaced...and the scaffolding firm, the B*@$%££s have gone and taken all me lead i had stored in my back yard!!..had nearly a blue bin full, rang them only to get the obvious "i haven't a clue what your on about mate" reply...funny how it vanished the day the scaffolding went!!

It's only in the north east , it's a pilot scheme that all registered scrap dealers have to sign up for in the north east area , the rest of the country will no doubt follow later.

Lads you would,nt believe how much scrap isknicked these days. Bosses at work have gone though the roof due to the jump in crime figures. All collectors must now have insurance for vehicles to collect and a traders certificate from the council if niether van is siezed.

i would be phoning them up and saying you have looked at your neighbours cctv and seen them take it if they give it back or
the money you wont go to the police cant leave anything these days jeff

in sunderland EMR any scrap metal ya weigh in ya goto show ya lisence and must be a veichle used also or ya will be turned away sometimes the police are camping outside the yard exit in cars etc and checking ya boot or van

Bought £60(£1.25 Kg of lead from a dealer in Gateshead had I.D. on me but they didnt need to see it as I was buying not selling.Not every yard in the N.E. was raided by Nothumbria's finest but those that were had been targeted for obvious reasons so I was informed by the nice gentleman that weighed out my lead purchase.
