First trip out with a new rod I got for Christmas, a rt axe, so thought I'd try a rock mark.

Fished the front of camels island for a couple of hours over low water - non stop rocklings, the biggest was 34cm, all on mussel and lug on 4/0 mantas.

No cod but got to lift some fish with the axe.

Couldn't get past the rockling so packed up and went to roker pier for a bit. I could see it was packed so just fished near the beach - loads of jip from crabs, but no fish. Didn't sound like there'd been many cod at the end.

bit late now andy, personaly i would of left rockling on hook, added another baited hook, then cast back in with 2 baits, just a thought.anyway nice report, hope your pleased with your r/t.had 1myself found 7oz leads better to use,as there hellish stiff imo.

Keep trying Andy, you're certainly putting the hours in. Glad you're happy with the new rod. There were loads of rocklings today at Whitburn, hard to get past them. I did manage one codling at 40cm and lost a good one on the retrieve. Canny day to be out, cold but not too windy.

Cheers could try that sometime with the rockling.

Definitely pleased with the rod, but I think I will have to up my weights; usually use 5oz which was fine on camels island as I was just lobbing it over the side, but when i tried getting distance on roker i had to really whack it hard (and ended up miss-timing the first few casts - got about 15 yards! But got a bit further when I got used to it!)

Cheers mark, definitely plenty rocklings, they were taking my bait within seconds of it hitting the water. Well done on the cod, I'm planning on having some sessions along Whitburn soon.
