Cannylinks

Got a packet of these today on TSF mag,on the how to use them guide they are tied direct to rig body with a grinner knot or similar yet previously I remember watching a vid on u tube by the origional maker and he attached them to a loop so they would rotate and release .Which way is correct,I am sure some people on here will have used the origonals. Also was surprised how small they were.

Alright mate,
I use these and clip them onto a double overhand loop as on vid.
But smaller!
I've experimented with these and they really are the dogs.
I tie the weak link to the rig body above the loop as per vid, but don't crank the knot too tight so I can slide it up the rig body after hooking the lead link onto the canny link, thus eliminating the loop of line, so it can't get hung up on release.
Sounds more complicated than it is :)

Yes I get what you mean Alan, will knock a few rigs up with them. Were the origonal ones as small or have you not seen the Tronix ones to compare.

When you fasten the link to the loop and then the weak link to the loop as well surely you won't always just lose your lead ? As loop will be weak as well ??

The weak link gets tied onto the mainline, not the loop.
Don't know what you mean about the loop being weak David, I use 80lb rig bodys and a double overhand in that is v strong and won't slip.

Rod.
Havnt seen the original ones, only the tronix,
I'll give you one of my rigs next time I see you to try :)

These are what I use, I make them myself. There Copys of the breakaway rotters

Phil thats what I use at the moment, have also got some of the rotters ,made myself with a wide bore bead.Used to make them with a button years ago but found the buttons broke easy.Got these off the mag and thought to give them a go.Saw the video and have made them that way ,it was just the instructions in the mag were contradictory.

Yes John ,some of it and chucked the rest.Too much weed the other day, couldn`t get gear back last 2 casts with the weight of weed on line.Just snapping line trying to get it back.Might take up Dominos instead (not the pizzas either).

did you not like the rotten bottoms the lads in rigs used to make still got some myself some with bait clips and some without, still prefer panel pin way easy as out cheap and versatile.

gennie clips as described by members on this thread is very good as well.

why dont we start fly fishing at sharpley probaly catch more cod in there as in the sea.

HI Rod.
I can comfirm the instructional photos in TSF are misleading, they should be attatched to a loop. The Tronix ones were copied direct from samples I was asked to make, so they are identical in shape and size. The originals, seven years ago, were equally as long on both ends, thety were quickly developed to the pattern you see now. Id argue against gerrys rotters being as good upside down, Where does the weight hang?? Never mind. Cannylinks have three advantages, they act as a weak link hook, a bait clip, and the position they are used in, protects the bait upon impact with the water as it is tucked close behind the lead.
Hope that helps.
