Thinking about making some cart up this summer for next year. Anyone got any tips on how to best make it? i have read the tips on whitby sea angling and there seems to be a lot of different ways to do it. Has anyone made them into sausages? If so what do you use (machine wise) and how easy is it? As a final point, why is cart banned in comps? Thanks in advance

Hi mate Ive made it a few times what Ido is
Crack the crabs open take the coral out
Put it into a large jug
Take the sausage skins and put over the end of a funnel
Pour contents into skins
Tie them off into sausages
Put into tray and freeze

Other method I tried is to pour contents into a large tray
Freeze down
Cut into desired size baits
Wrap in cling film and then in tin foil
Put back in freezer

It cost me just under £6 for 3 massive hen/female crab from latimers, I cracked them open (hardest part to do) scraped the innards into a mixing bowl, for a thicker consistancy you can add bread crumbs, The 3 nicely filled the bottom of a baking tray which i put in the freezer then once frozen i cut into 2-3" strips and put inside finger bandage and tie both ends then back in the freezer, I heard that ikea sell ice cube trays which are ling and circular so ideal for freezing in them.
Im not sure of the ins and outs but basically its against the law to use and part of an edible crab for fishing bait north of the tyne which is probably why its not allowed in most comps

When did you buy them if you don't mind me asking ?

Ahh. I forgot about the byelaw that we have for not using edible crab as a bait. How come we are lumped with that but no where else? After all cart is essentially waste parts that can't be eaten. It's certainly more sustainable and eco-friendly than ploughing beaches to death for worms?!

About 20 sized between 2-3" not bad considering the frozen cart from tackle shops is £5 for three 6" sausages and nowhere near as good as home made cart

I got some cart from inshore fisheries in redcar about 3 weeks ago after reading a post on here that they do it for a £5. Didnt get as much as i thought, maybe an A5 size and about half an inch thick but ive chopped it into 10 strips and wrapped it in cling film and im gonna use it the morra when im out and see if its any good. I could see loads of red coral init so heres hoping....ill put a catch report up over the weekend to report my results. :D
