Hi All, 1st day of spring, and spring it was. Had a few lug so time to wet the hull again, and headed straight to the hard ground inshore of the yellow can.
Anchored up in what was the last of the ebb tide, and within a minute, was into a small codling of a 1lb+, then a couple of pouting and poor cod.
Soon the tide slackened and the bites also, so moved a little further out, but not a touch there. After a while, went back to 45ft 0f water, threw the anchor over, dropped down a couple of fresh baits, and as the boat was slowly swinging round in the now flood tide, my line went tight, and I thought, Sh*t, fast up, but then it started to bounce,........naaaaaaaaaah! that's a fish. Whey, it went ballistic stripping line against the clutch.......flippin great fun. Eventually came to the surface as I groped around in the cuddy for the net, 3rd attempt got it, and it turned the scales at 8 and a half pound.

Continued catching small codlings and returning as many as I could, about a dozen, and ended up keeping 6 fish that wouldn't have survived.
Noticed a boat heading towards me, it was Kev1n in "wor Lass"........sounds a bit strange saying that.:red: Had a bit crack, then he headed further inshore from me to fish at anchor, as the tide was pulling quite strong now.
Now out of bait, it was time to head back in, but look at the view I had to leave,

Hope it's not too long before it's like that again, but Man, it was great to be out again.

What a cracking day to be out. Well done on opening the season Arthur, that 8 pounder must have put a good bend in your light rod.
You chose the right time to fish, I had a couple of scotchies just before you left then it all went quiet both at anchor and on a few drifts.

Cracking Arthur, good little catch and I bet it was great to be back out pal. Hopefully see you down there soon. Couple of things yet to do on boat but should be out in a few weeks.

Thanks for all the comments lads, shouldn't be too long before we're all out catching again, and the forecast for the coming weekend is milder:):)

Right that's it, I'm off to sort the boat out in the dark now! This has well and truly inspired me to get back in the water asap!!!

Cracking stuff Arthur - what a fish!!!
