hi steve had one for years always used in s\s pier and river not strong enough for rough ground

the original ignitor was a rough ground rod and i was told by lew marsden that it was capable of casting up to 10oz.

it was a stiff rod with a brilliant bite detecting tip

but, that was a few years ago now and any existing rods will have gone very soft in the tips.

mine was a fantasic rod when new but after a lot of years of use the fine tip became very soft.

It is prob 15+ yrs old but had very little use feels really stiff and quite hard to load when casting, will age alone have an effect on the rods action?

ive got a 25yr plus hardy tournament fibalite mk3 and thats a proper stiff rod cast 6-9oz before i got it it had been sitting in someones attic for nearly 20yr but it was well used before that!
had it out the other week and it still performs well and casts a 6oz lead like its not there!!!:D:D but cast nice for a rough ground rod!!
in my opinion its the make of the rod ie the material used plus usage mate!! hope this helps!:):)
