Century reel seats

Seen a few comments about changing the standard reel seat for something better. I have the latest model Tip Tornado and the reel seat just doesn't seem to grip my Penn Surflblaster tightly , also that tightening knob at the back which sticks up gets in the way for me.

Would like to change it for a better reel seat, which is the one to go for ?

Any advice much appreciated.

Unscrew the locking bit and remove the coaster.

Buy a Fuji DPS seat (I'd guess 26mm for a TT but double check) and using the Century seat as a guide cut a groove in the same placeas on the Century using a hacksaw (no need to make any cross cuts, just two parallel grooves will do the job fine).

Remove the screw fitting of the Fuji seat, slde on the old Century coaster andposition over the groove as it was on the old seat and replace the screw fitting. Put this on your rod butt and replace the butt cap. Job should take all of 5 minutes (no need to go mad with the grooves) and you will have one of the best reel seats out there for about £10 (£9.99 from Rutherfords)...

Also - if the coaster is getting in the way you could always turn the seat through 180 degrees so the coaster sits at the top of the reel seat on the butt rather than at the bottom. You can also try changing the angle that the coaster sits at - it doesn't have to sit at 180 degrees to the reel.

I think the century seat with coaster is really only designed for multi's mate which is probs why your struggling with your Surfblaster. Take Stewart's advice and change it for a fuji or something

I use a coaster with fixed spool just put it on either side that comfy, all reel seats have problems with the reel footings the afaw and penn both struggle with a saltist, it's the collar that's poor on the century reel seat, also what has helped mine get a better grip of the reel footing is put a little electrician tape on the ends of the reel foot.

some reel feet are too short and not wide enough . I just took my century seat off for this very reason when using a penn mag 525 mk2 . I replaced it with a Fuji seat and wrapped tape on the butt first , now every reel tightens down no problem .
