Cheap rods?

Hello lads first post so be gentle:) I am after a rod to start fishing the Tyne and piers etc. Looked on the net and decided the Salt looked a fair bet, went to fishing republic for one but they had sold out. They only had the bass rod left. They did have a Sonik SKS for £70 which the lad said was a better rod, i have looked at the reviews by Paul fenech and its all good but i was not keen on the look of the rod. Is it better than the Salt? any others worth a look around the same price.
cheers

welcome to nesa mate my advice would be to hold fire for a while and keep checking the trading post on here. You can pick up some quality rods for a fraction of the price second hand. I got a greys apollo mk2 for 70 quid and it would blow that sonikS away bud.

i would also agree but then again how long you might have to wait for something that comes up in your budget is also something to concider
there has been a lot of rods over the last few months but also a lot have been sold by the time ive seen them
wouldnt like to comment on the soniks as ive never used one but i do recall a few good comments about them on here so you could try doing a search for them and see if that helps

Have heard mixed reviews regards Soniks, especially the SK3's- however the SK4 - 14ft is a cracking peice of kit but is a canny bit more expensive than the other Soniks - I've never seen many second hand ones for sale on this site or any where else. As the other lads have already said you can pickup a canny bargain on this site - Good look to yer m8.

Bought a Salt Flattie and it is an awesome bit of kit for £30. Also use a Sonik SK4 and think it's the best rod I've ever had. Best get into a shop and have a feel of what you think suits you. Used to love Conoflex, still do but there is so much out there to suit your budget.

Good luck

I found the any fish anywhere six and bait were a cracking rod for the beginners and are ideal for pier and river fishing cheap as well

I've got a Salt Bass, which is a good rod. Casts 4oz quite a long way. Used it on the beach when its calm and coped well.

If I were you I would look out for a good second hand rod. Century, Zziplex, Conoflex, Anyfish Any Where etc. There are bargains to be had if you are patient. I have got 2 Century rods which I got second hand and paid under half the new price.

welcome mate.just got back into fishing myself after a couple of years.buy a rod that you like. fish dont know what they caught on.if your just getting back into it you will be keen to buy one straight away.take your time be patient, try them out in the shop and if your happy buy it.look on this site for rods in the adds section, wont get them any cheeper.anyway good luck mate.

i use AFAW rock rod, wouldnt change now, good stiff rods, but a few people i know use the greys apollo mk2,they are a crackin rod for the price you can get them for,if i had to swap, that what id be getting

Thanks for the advice lads, would a reelsport VFM be a good choice?
cheers

for the money the VFM is a good buy, i have had the reelsport response and thunder, cracking rods, have also fished with a VFM ( roker pier, steetley pier when it was there and also roker beach) and the rod had a nice action to it.

Cant comment on the AFAW rods or the Soniks

Have a look in the Greys/Hardy museum in Alnwick, they were selling Brand Spankas Apollo Mk2 for £100. There's also other rods for around the 100 mark.

I bought the VFM Sport off a member on here, lovely rod. Used it on the river the other night and well pleased with it, christened it with a whiting too!
