Collywell Bay last night.

Fished Collywell with Keith last night and although there was a good sea the fishing was quiet, just the one undersize Coley. We were going to fish Blyth beach but looking at the cams yesterday decided it would be too big and arranged to meet at Collywell instead, the south end of the beach looked big when I drove into Collywell bay.

Bumped into an old face when we were coming away, he said they had been on the sumps but it was far too heavy and they were just getting dragged around.

I've just got back from doing the weekly shop and feel like I've had a good hiding lol, I think I stood a little too long last night. A few of the waves came right accross the little beach just before high tide so we had to move the boxes onto the ramp and walking up and down there was not too easy for me as it's not very level at all. There was someone fishing the south end of the bay but they didn't stay too long so it must not have been throwing fish out of there either lol.

There wasn't really a lot of choice of places for me to fish last night and the bay looked really good when we got down but it wasn't to be, better luck next Saturday night we hope.

that could be somthing to do with the miles of gill net put out yesterday morning from tynemouth to the sluice then then form the sluice to blyth pier and as far up as lynemouth with very few gaps for the fish to get through

yep blyth beach was a bit heavy last night jim. had a couple of chucks then hit the pier. fished 4hrs up to high water and caught steadily right through. only small stuff though to single worms and size 1 hooks. (nothing on my big baits:mad:) tommys, few coleys, couple of flats and the ever present rocklin'. where are all the whiting:confused: havent had one up there since about november:question:
better luck next weekend jim

Cheer's Dicky, Keith mentioned the lack of Whiting last night, I think that happens some seasons. We used to get lots of Coley from all over the place and this is the first year I've seen them reported in bigger numbers for a while. I think with there being a lot more rough seas this year could have something to do with it, but that's just my thoughts on it.

We were looking forward to fishing the beach last night as it's a long time since we were last on. I even had a drive down on Thursday afternoon to have a recce at low water and found a couple of nice holes, I'll have to do the same next week now, if the conditions are favourable, as they will probably have moved lol.

Same here Dicky Mint - no whiting since November off Blyth Pier (November 17 I got 17 Whiting) hows that for coinsidence.

I would have thought Collywell may have fished last night....!!! however the sea was big. Which ramp were you fishing Willy?

I tried the sumps from the breakwater for about 30mins but couldn't hold bottom. Mabey mid week will show a change...!!!

alrite jim, have u had much luck from that shingle area in past? at least u didnt blank, was out meself last nite along the tyne had undesize codlin and a decent flounder over 1lb

I've had a few fish from there in the past Sid but nothing big, I took Kingfisher down there and he had a nice one for eight or eight and a half pounds. I am sure my biggest was about three and a half from there, but it can throw the odd decent one out.

Your not wrong Trevor, I get enough of sitting in the house and getting out twice in a fortnight is a bonus for me lol, hoping to make it three times in three weeks next week, fingers crossed mate.

aye av fished collywell fair few times at lw from the rocks but never the small shingle beach but might give it a shot sumtime;)

Be careful on the big tides as it will run right to the back wall, that combined with a big sea can be a bit dodgy. It fishes best on a good sea, I've only ever had smaller fish when it's been flatter. That said though, there is sure to be someone that will have had a decent fish out when it's been flat, that's fishing lol.
