Reading through one of the other posts i decided to post this, im sure there will be a lot of opinions on this.
It is older news, but still can give people some sort of idea whats going on if they didnt allready know.
I heard on the grapevine that while it may seem that cod quotas are increasing, this is not all true. A lot of commercial boats are having a lot of there whitefish quota taken away from them, this is based on each particular boats track record of cod catches, if boats have not been landing cod, they may be restricted from landing it in the future. i.e a boat fishing for shellfish for the last year, may have his total whitefish quota taken from him as he has not been landing whitefish.
How close this is to being inrtoduced im not sure, but after talking with a few local fisherman its something the government has in the pipeline.
