Craster 11 July

It was such a gorgeous day last Friday that my wife insisted on joining me for the day out and to be fair I've never experienced such a day before with totally flat seas accompanied by blue skies and sunshine ALL DAY !! It was just as well really since the fishing was pants

We left Amble marina at 0800 stopping off at Seaton Point for a look-see but all I caught were some small coalies so we pushed on up to Craster; With no wind the drift speed was very very slow and though I could see fish on the sounder they were not in a feeding mood: It didn't matter much though because it was just so nice bobbing along gently just topping up the tan! There were a lot of boats out this way - usually there's just the charter boat from Craster and a SIB or two but today there were 5 or 6 other boats around: They seemed to stick to the deeper water and I did wonder if I should move further out but in that heat I just couldn't be bothered:

I tried all sorts to encourage bites - metal jigs; shads; lures; baited hokkais; gumimacs and even feathers but all I seemed to get were a run of pout (always a bad sign); a dozen small codling the biggest of which was barely 2lb; several small pollack to 2lb; half-a-dozen small coalies and a baby ling: Not even any mackerel!

At 1500 we motored back to Amble and were treated to a display of acrobatic dolphins off Boulmer which pleased my wife no end
