Well a very poor catch report i'm afraid:( :( :o Me Phil and Kris went up to Craster on friday night, me straight from work. (started 2.30am) Anyway we had a very good choice of bait with fresh and frozen peeler, rag, lug, razor, mackreal and mussel. Got there about seven pm and went right of the harbour to a hole that Phil had been told about but there were people already fishing it so we decided to try a gulley closer to the harbour and casting toward the muckle carr...Kris was first to get a knock but it came to nowt and he was the only one getting bites for a couple of hours although we were all using the same bait and casting in almost the same place:confused: just after it got dark his rod started to rattle again followed by a good bite and the rod started jumping in the stand he reeled in with us all hoping for a good fish only to find a smallish red kelp cod taken on frozed peeler. The bites continued for both Kris and Phil but i wasn't having any luck:mad: :( Phil then had a great knock and his rod was bent over bringing what seemed a very good fish in:) he was well chuffed as it must have been a good fish...then suddenly the line went very tight and the fish must have got between the rocks as it just would not budge...he gave it a bit slack line to see if it would swim out but no joy, he then decieded to just go for it and hope to just snap the weight off but the line suddenly went very loose and he was snapped off:o he was well gutted.
That was about all of the excitment for the night and it seemed to be having it's effect on Kris who was asleep on the rocks behind us;) i've got to say i was very tempted to follow him. Packed up and left at 11.45pm ready for bed.

Canny report Greg,

"Craster on friday night, me straight from work. (started 2.30am)" - that's what I call dedication, I'm sure you'll be rewarded soon! :)

Nice one lads - I'll join you next time (if that's OK? ;) :D )

I think all disciplines of sea fishing are hard work at the moment....hopefully it'll change at some point

good report but unlike me someone caught something:):) mind there were three of you with baits in the water. i think the mark you are on is called school point looking at the photo:)

cheers
mark

Tony you are always welcome;) you're right about it being slow, i can't even catch mackreal on the pier at the moment:confused: i just need to get out more and learn how to spot the right holes to fish, i've got a good suply of frozen bait for the winter so hopefully i'll have some luck.

Really need to learn a simple rig to use for rough ground fishing so any ideas with pics are very welcome:D

Very true mate!! after my failure on friday i headed back to the same mark on saturday moring, after re-checking the maps we did have the right mark Greg! Anyway fished All day saturday and had the same result, nothing over high tide, lots of good knocks around low but still failed to land a fish. Headed home about half 7 after fishing for 10 hours, Was happy with my day though even without the fish, i'd learnt that low tide was the time to fish! and that my simple single hook flappers with escape links would come back every time although losing the odd weight and hook to the kelp. Decided to head up again on suday morning to fish it at low.

Was up for half 5 loaded the car with the remainder of my frozen peeler, after a right carry on with the car(wouldnt start  ) was on the road by half 6 was on the rocks for half 7. and straight into some good knocks that i missed, the fish seemed to be stripping my crab and 3 miles of bate elastic with one hit and not comming back, getting a little frustrated i sat with the rod in my hand so i wouldnt miss the next one, hit into a good fish the next time wich after a bit of a fight then unhooked itself and swam of into the kelp :( . Was rappidly running out of bait so i got my lock knife out and hunted down some Limpits!!! and what do you know no sooner had the bait hit the bottom then bag the rod went and i landed my first fish in 3 sessions lol.
