Had a day trip today with Phill, Scott (Cocomonkey) and Gregg up the Northumberland coast...
Got to Craster at about 1130ish to be met by grey skies, drizzle and lumpy seas
Phill wanted to fish a kelpy mark to try and eke out some Red Cod...so he and Scott duly lobbed a couple of crab, mussel combos into the water and stood and waited
I was fishing light today so farted around with a float along the edges...after an hour and a few lost rigs (no fish hasten to add) it was decided to move on.
So we started walking in the other direction and headed towards the Castle.
Back of the Castle I again started float fishing with Phill and Scott chucking in big baits. Gregg turned up at this point and proceeded to fish lead heads, spinners, daylites
(scabby chav
)...after a while 3 of us were fishing floats (while keeping and eye on the big rods) and eventually Scott gave a triumphant cry
Not the best picture but I promise it is a small wrasse - Scotts first ever one so he was happy
A while later...
A new species for Phill - a large Granny
...Bailey the dog had a keen eye on it too
A little while later again...
A nice scrapping size Wrasse for Phill - his new PB for this species
I hadn't caught owt at this stage and had lost the only 2 floats I'd brought in the kelp
so had resorted to fishing makeshift ledger rigs with Ragworm baits...downsized everything after loads of fruitless knocks, and some HUGE Velvet Swimming Crabs
to size 2 hooks...eventually caught myself 2 very scraptastic half pound coalies (no pics
)
And Greg:question:
He was unfortunately without a fish this afternoon - but no doubt he'll catch a beast the next time to put all this afternoons tiddlers to shame

Great craic and a good afternoons hiking and fishing in what is a very picturesque part of the world.
Cheers
Tony
