Fished just north of the pier 2hrs either side of the tide. 2 of us fishing caught nowt and not a bite. spent more time chasing the eider ducks of our bait. we used rag, squid, macky and mussel. Even used some herring and sprat we got from Asda, think I was 12 the last time I used herring ! still a nice relaxing day fish would have been a bonus.

It was quite rough at times seemed to settle on the turn. the sea was very coloured. saw a couple of lads on the pier fishing late on.

I had a drive down to the coast today, I was thinking about getting in touch with my mate for a session up at Craster.

As soon as I saw the conditions I decided not to bother, far too much movement on the water.

If it drops off for Thursday I might have a look up.

For anyone from down here that wants to fish up that way but is not sure, my tip would be to have a look at the Tynemouth webcam.

If there is a bit of sea running then don't bother. Just my opinion like.

Jim.

fished south side ov craster on sunday aswell as howick not a sniff just lots ov lost weights n traces

just need marksworld to point me in the direction of the less snaggier areas up there lol

just to add to what jim says, i have wasted time and bait fishing in rough conditions up there with nothing to show for it, i would say after a big sea on and when it drops off flat calm then is the time to fish or on nice warm calm summers days:).
if there is a bit of sea on fish behind the breakwater just up from the harbour as that makes the sea a little bit flatter.
as far as less snaggy places, well i have not found any. you could go up on a monday fish the rock edges and lose all your gear, then go up tue and fish the same spot and lose nothing. just have loads of rotten bottoms (cannylinks are good) and a stack of weights. something else i have been taugh use BIG BAITS:). be careful on the rock edges when they are wet as they are like sheets of ice, iv'e been on my ass a few times.
last point and not getting at anyone at all. KEEP IT CLEAN. i know you all do but its a fantastic bit of coastline up there and rubbish just spoils it.

cheers
mark:)

dont give up m8, try the rock edges on a nice flat sea, once the weather gets better shorts and t shirt weather there will be still fish to be caught. red cod, scorpion fish, pollack and the ocasional doggie and at the castle loads of macky but i dont bother with them much.
if ya want to leave your rod and reel behind there is a go**** bush about a few hundred yards from the gate, just leave it under there :) :).
better luck next time.

"You been at the embalming fluid again or what Mark"
tony i think it's because i haven't been at it lol:)

Was it two female Eiders George?...... I spent the last session of the our season feeding them left over squid up the back of Craster Pier back in February. One was a right hungry horace neckin it down whole.....The other had better table manners and tried to break it into smaller pieces by shaking it's head. Although I caught nowt it was enjoyable just being out with nature.

Yes it was 2 female ducks and they kept having a go for our bait box, the only bites we had all day. as for the tackle losses I lost one rig in our session and me mate lost one nearly every chuck, just can't tell realy. He also smashed his rod tip when our rods went for a fly of the stand.
Went to Hardys, very helpful but was going to cost £65 for a whole new section or £25 to fit a new tip ring. In the end they supplied me one for a fiver not bad realy. This was the apollo mark 1. It was the last tip section they had the mark 2 is cheaper at £35.

regards....

George......
