I've just getting back from a break, staying in a caravan up in Cresswell.I didn't think i would of had much with the sea being relatively calm but to my surprise a few fish turned up.I fished in daylight just up from the Carrs, casting from the beach into the back of the breakers and to my surprise a few school bass to about 2lb turned up.These put up a good fight fishing with light tackle and 3oz leads.I had been digging in the morning and had some nice fresh lugworm and i'd taking up a couple of dozen peeler crab.I was mainly fishing for flatties which were caught but to say these were small they were transparent LOL!.What made the trip even better was that my fishing mate a young novice angler (13) who had never caught fish before! he had the first 2 fish a u/s flounder and a schoolie going about 2lb.He had helped with the digging and he was chuffed to bits with his bass.I was telling him that he was a lucky lad to catch a bass for his second fish.He has the fishing bug now and i think i'll be getting a few phone calls over the next few days.We retired back to the caravan and planned to fish from the rocks round the corner at the private beach for low tide down and the first of the flood.
We arrived just as it was turning dark and we hurried to get tackled up.A nice swell was creeping up the beach so we fished into the back of the breakers in a deeper hole next to a dense kelp bed.On my first cast i had two fish a small codling and a 'rockling' both on fresh crab.My young mate followed this up with another bass about a 1lb and then the fishing went quiet for about half an hour.I had a good bite holding the rod but it didn't come back i recasted out into the same spot and had an instant take which produced another codling about 2lb.
With the tides getting later to fish we had another go along the beach in daylight. This only produced a couple of small dabs and a flounder which was about 1lb.But again it wasn't the fishing which gave me a buzz it was the sheer enjoyment of watching the excited lad catching fish again. The last session was last night in a big sea which was getting bigger as the tide topped HW and the increasing weed which made the fishing almost impossible as the weed was gathering on your line and making your lead pull out. This didn't put 'Lee' off he was quite happy catching weed HA! so i had to explain that we were not fishing and our leads kept pulling out etc.It was time for a few beers and a few tales of the one that got away.It was a good laugh when he was telling his grandad about ALL the fish he had caught and that he may take him fishing one day.To say i was chuffed to see this lad having an excellent time.He even told his Mam that he had, had the best week ever "it was even better then 'Disney Land in Paris' " :) :)

thought the forum was to put catch reports up and help each other to catch fish by telling each other where fish are being caught not trying to keep it a secret,i aint started this year fishing will be this winter for the cod,but when i do ill be hopfully giving some canny reports :) :)

I think Wallsendo was just trying to say keep the mark secret so the trawler men don't jump on it and clean the fish out as has happened in the past. I agree with you that we should let each other know which areas are catching but for some species it's just best to keep the mark a secret. If people are interested in finding out where it is they can always send a pm!!

Totally agree about keeping locations quiet for the mentioned reasons but i'd love to see any seine netter trawl or drop gill nets in this area. This place is littered with kelp, off shore reefs and God knows what other under water obsticles. But a valid point and one worth mentioning but the whole idea of mentioning these marks is for anybody who is in the area to give it a go.I wouldn't of mentioned the area in question as a coordination to send the commercial boats out to desimate the fish stocks..

What baits were working best for the bass and what kind of rigs were you using?

well i have had enough of this sh!t im sick of reading posts and then certain people turning it into a bloody dont say this dont tell that we are all on here to get advice and tips and if somewhere is fishing well why not say.as for trawlers and nets can a lad not have a great time fishing without some twunt going on and on about things that should be put in a different thread well #.done lads great report sorry for the rant but you did well and i dont think you should have this thread fecked up by people thinking thats you should not say where you fished.by the way i dont own a boat iv only fished there once on the beach and i wont fish there again for my own reasons.well done again lads great report :)

Well it's like this lads , mention bass being caught and you can bet ya bottom dollar it's netted off soon afterwards ,so as far as bass are concerned keep it on PM and make sure you let me know as well :o :D :p

i know what your saying steve mate but, to me, it dont matter whether it was bass or crabs being caught i dont think people should have a dig at people for posting a great catch report

I think under the circumstances - great report about lots of other things of which bass played a small part. And the info that's since been given by blank on the nature of the mark it was entirely justified mentioning the place. On other occasions it's not a good idea IMO, the initial criticism came from a poster rightly concerned about conserving bass (for us to catch;) ) but maybe wrong to criticise in this instance. Something I am never guilty of ever.
