Just watching the news tonight and lo and behold there`s me mate Terry Moody on in his boat Vicky Jo (steel hull home built) pictures around the marina as Terry tells the tale of how (yesterday at about 4.00pm) he was just outside the piers in the mist and he came across 2 men in the water clinging to a petrol can .....................
Seemingly they had gone out in a small boat with no equipment, radio etc and sunk ................
so there you are , my mate a hero .................

never looked into news items yet but has anyone heard anything about it?

It's on the front page of the Journal today mate. Like you say they went out with no basic gear (life jackets!, mobile or radio) and the boat sank:o They were in the water for around 3 hours. Friends reported them missing and a huge rescue was launched!! They were very very lucky as it was very foggy and they could easily have not been spotted:exclam:

ive just went on icnewcastle and read it thats crazy im gonna have to get some new life jackets even though i dont go out without my floatation suit (i have a radio and always have my mobile)

aye lucky is the word ......... if you knew where they were you`d have probably missed them in the fog but to just suddenly turn up there ......... amazing luck ... and yes , well done Terry mate.

unbelievably lucky, the fog ain't lifted for days it seems.

still find it hard to believe that anyone can go to sea without even a mobile let alone anything else I'd put on the 'essentials' list. I can only conclude there total lack of respect for the sea was possibly matched by there total alck of knowledge about boats if they managed to sink it without hitting anything (maybe they did)

Big up to your mate terry though norman, its a major adrenaline moment, even though you're safe and sound in your own boat when you become the centre of a rescue mission, only done it once and was utterly amazed at how calmly co-ordinated the rescue services are liasing between shore, lifeboats and aircraft

Great news for a change ! These guys have been so fortunate and should count there lucky stars:eek:
Well done that man :D
Was he part of the search party Norm? I heard yesterday that there was a boat missing !
RESULT:exclam:

Not spoken to Terry but from what I can gather he was just on his way in from a fishing trip, slowly in the mist with a man at the front looking to avoid pots. ............... ever ever so lucky .....

Very very lucky...i was out today and could not see tynemouth pier from 200 yards away today, very lucky the boat passed close so they could see...good news anywya as 7 boats lost in the uk over the weekend due to the weather.
