cruel thing to do

not nice at all - but we did cook two of their cities ,

should have dropped a few more - they are civilised at being UNcivilised :o

Eating live sea food isn't that bad !!
Us "Civilized" Westerners eat oysters ALIVE !! straight from the sea !! isn't it the same?

I may not be a biologist but aren't Oysters devoid of a nervous system and therefore don't feel any pain yet that fish was de-scaled (probably the equivalent is having all your hair pulled out), gutted alive and it's body then cooked leaving the brain alive to continue gasping for air....SHOCKING

It's horses for course surely...what we "civilised" Westerners decry as barbaric is clearly acceptable elsewhere. No doubt they judge us for fishing for "sport" when other countries fish for food....just take a look at Eastern Europe (see Killingworth Lake thread)...they eat Carp, whereby we catch and release them umpteen times throughout their life - no doubt causing undue stress on the fish; but because we are "civilised" it is acceptable.

I agree a twitching fish on a plate wouldn't be the first thing I'd chose from the menu, but it's slightly pompous to judge it.

Makes me laugh some of the **** people post on these forums.

I agree 100% with what wallsendo has writen, my wife is asian and her eating habits are different to what wwe would say is the norm in the UK.It really gets me wound up when narrow minded idiots think people should be bombed because they eat a little different, what a prat.

Can't see how it's pompous to believe that causing suffering to a creature is wrong. I along with probably all that have commented either release our fish virtually unharmed (that's why Carp are caught umpteen times) or are swiftly dispatched.
Given the choice of being put to death you can have the choice of firing squad OR having all your hair (including y' nether regions) ripped out, your insides pulled out, dipped up to your neck in boiling oil and then gnawed at.

What would you choose?

I know what I'd have.

It's an argument that goes round in circles (and has been argued on this forum several times already)...what we do as Anglers is inherently cruel anyway, so why do it?

There are pictures of Carps mouths that have been hooked umpteen times - they look like badly wrapped Kebabs...how do we know it doesn't hurt them?

It IS pompous to impose our "civilised" western virtues on others...

The world is not pink anymore

It was a while back but is this the same country that used them live dogs as bait for catching sharks? It's bad enough eating fish from the bone but doing it when still alive is just sick. No expression on their faces either as if it's just normal???

Wallsendo.....There is a saying that you can tell how civilised a country is by the way it treats its animals.....What those people are doing in that clip is completely uneccessary. Does it taste any better coz it's still gasping for air while it's insides have been removed, it's scales taken off and then had it's body deep fried. I'll bet you it doesn't!

If your neighbour was kicking the life out of his dog next door, would you stand back and say....'well I'm not gonna interfere, coz it would be pompous of me to do so if my neighbour believes that's acceptable.

Fishing may have some degree of cruelty in it, but WE as responsible anglers do our very best to minimise that..

Pompous defined: displaying exaggerated seriousness or stateliness

It would be interesting to find out which social demographic coined that phrase

I am not condoning it, nor do I encourage unneccessary cruelty to animals. My comment was aimed towards the general tone, which smacked of Olde Worlde Imperialism
