had a walk down to cullercoats harbour on thursday night, walked onto the north pier and was looking in the crystal clear water, loads of crabs about then a nice plaice caught my eye, unfortunately i didnt have my gear with me. went down saturday morning early to avoid the crouds of people (they came eventualy) fished on the north pier casting towards the south pier to begin with, i was throwing little bits of mackeral into where i had seen the plaice a couple of days before, before long about 3 or 4 small ones apeared and where taking the mackeral so i reeled in and dropped my bait about 5 yards away from the pier and a big plaice probably nearly 2 pound took it, just as it got to the surface it spat the hook, it just swam back down to the bottom so i did the same again, watched it suck the bait in and i struck. it started fighting and i managed to get it out the water but just as it was about to get onto the pier it dropped off again(didnt see that one again after that) started casting a bit further and twitching the bait back, this resulted in 2 fairly good plaice, great weather and great fun catching a couple of fish.
