fished it today, 11:30-5:30 with a mate n not a bite between us. 5 other lads there and seen nowt off them either but nice to try somewhere new

tough one......its a well overated place, i have fished the place calm, choppy, tide in and out and all i have had to show was a little flattie and a seagull. try further south next time near the docs house but not on a heavy sea :)

Fished it on the flood and the ebb.
Fished it flat calm and rough.
Fished it spring,summer,autumn,winter.
Catch results very poor to blanks
my conclusion is that (a) i'm very unlucky or (b) the place is overated.
As you look south toward the doctors house i've always wished i'd gone there, who know's maybe next time?

I must agree with big sid and Marksworld I have fished it many times in all different conditions and never had much luck there at all. I even tried fishing it in the dark, not something I would reccomend to anyone as I got my car broken into and some gear stolen from the boot.

Bit of bad luck there jim getting your car broken into.parked in the usual spot for cullernose, side of the road opposite the emergency phone? Thought it was an ok place to leave your car. Goes to show you never can tell.

Yes, that's where it was parked mate, it was a few years ago now but when I mentioned it in Temples at the time he said not to park there after dark as it wasn't the safest of places. I actually disturbed them walking up the track as I heard their car pull away, it was a bit scary as I was just by myself.

It's the only time it has ever happened to me so I've been pretty lucky as I used to park in some quite isolated spots, that was the last time I did though :( :( such a pity as it takes away a lot of good marks. I just wouldn't have enjoyed my fishing while worrying about my car all night.

I have fished close inshore there a few times in the spring and summer and have caught cod but never in any numbers. On my last trip up there, I was about 100m from the end, due East and pulled up a foul hooked flatty on my bottom hook and a nice pretty goldfish on the other. The pretty fish 'stung' me and I now know it to be a lesser weaver. The sting was very mild more something akin to a nettle sting, maybe I was lucky reports suggest it could have been worse. I've seen Pollack caught within casting distance of the point but way back in the seventies.

Previously I've headed North when leaving Amble and I enjoy the scenery fishing between Boulmer and Craster but I've never had great fishing in recent times although some good catches back in the seventies on boats just out of Craster harbour. The rocky bottoms and kelp beds around Boulmer-Cullernose would seem to be the ideal ground for fishing. There's also a nice big wreck due East of Cullernose about 2.5 to 3 miles out and I haven't caught anything on that although I've only fished it twice. Additionally there's about 3 boats fishing for crabs from Boulmer and they don't seem to travel far, so again there must be a good crab population around there, I would have thought that would attract the Cod. Again, back in the seventies, I was fishing off Cullernose from the shore when an old guy came along from Craster and said "when I were a boy you could catch a fish every cast but the Seinne netters wiped out the fishing here" I'm sure the fishing has had time to recover, even since the seventies but time and time again we hear poor reports of this area.

Last year the sandy bottom of Druridge bay seems to attract a lot more Cod and I had some great days around Northern Hill. Perhaps this year I'll give the North another go.

from not having much luck at cullernose i have had loads more further north from marks such as school point, black hole and a few marks north of the harbour, good winter/summer fishing on calm days and nights. it sometimes can be a tackle graveyard and my thoughts sometimes when i'm not catching turn to think that with so much lead out there the fish must be dying from lead poisoning lol. to be serious though i have had some nice red kelpy cod out over the years, not massive but a few around the 2.5lb mark. iv'e had a nice 1&1'4lb scorpion fish from school point during the summer a few year back.
moving further north to dunstanborough castle i have had a few fish from the rocks and my very first and only wrasse. i will fish the castle only up until the summer kicks in properly when the macky bashers start spoiling the peace of the place.
another place i like up that way is around the docs house and a little bit further south. again fished on a calm day during winter and summer months.
people who know me on here know i love craster as one of my regular places to fish, unfortunately i haven't been out fishing since 2009 nesa comp. i'm gonna get myself back out soon though so keep an eye out for catch reports. hopefully this year will be a better summer with some nice seas and warm days and evenings.

One of the common misconceptions about Cullernose is its a rough ground mark. In fact its actually one large fairly barron area of sand infront and around the point - hence all the poor catch results from the place.
In all the times Ive fished it Ive had one decent cod about 4lb, and that was in a very large northerly- but as previously mentioned, that typr of sea is highly dangerous and with the fishing being so poor from there its not worth risking your neck for.
