i dont know if im telling the trouth here like but i would say yes you need a rod liceance and you could fish it and keep any fish that you catch in size,
and who;s going to know anyway lol
Graham, you will need a rod licence to fish anywhere unless you are fishing what is deemed Scottish waters.
A fishery Manager/Owner who actually pays to have his waters stocked still requires a rod licence before he can legally fish on his own property.
Crazy or What ?
I'm pretty sure that river fish are considered to be wild so even if you owned the land, you wouldn't actually own the fish. And yeah, like others have said, you definitely need a rod licence, even if you never leave your own back garden.
It's funny how the rod license fees never extended to Scotland with all the rivers and lochs up there.
I should have worded the question better tho'
I meant if sea trout or salmon where running through your back garden on their way upstream from the sea and you fished for them, could someone further up the river claim you have caught "their fish"?

No, they're not "their" fish. All they own is somewhere they can fish from - they don't own the fish in the river, otherwise you could only have one club per river!
