Well i have just got in, started at 8am this morning on the new boat....lots of small jobs to do and a few to still do.

Bob/Norman your right about the money, just finished a list of thing si need in the next few days, almost £600 worth lol..decided to live with the fish finder for a year but will be getting a new plotter mid range one in the enxt two days...all new to me so not sure what to go for but not looking at spending more than £350...mean reason is thats all i have until pay day next month lol.

list.....plotter, fenders x4, 20ft of rope, 4 fender stainless steel clips, life jacket x2, new vent for front of boat, new live bait on off tap and last some anchor chain.

Happy the boat is in good con and things looking up, hoping to take the family out on it Monday for a trip down to Marsden for photos and upto Blyth for the same, cant see any fishing being done until maybe thur once a gps is fitted and the weather stays settled.

Off to sand some wood latts down now :)

Well first trip out to sea today on the boat and not all went to plan but if it did it would not be boating i guess.

1st off no catch report, never went fishing just a trip 1mile past the piers to test the boat etc.

Few things of cencern to work on...breather pipe seems blocked for the fuel tank (will look at) Need at least one new rope for berthing, require a cap for the front of the vent to prevent water spray getting in to the cabin...

The main to issues......1st dont take the boat past the piers in thick fog on her first trip with out a gps system lol and the main one is the battery light is on for 1-2mins after you start the boat up, checked the belt tention, checked the battery before setting off and was ok (new june 08), checked the conections and so on...not sure but it could require a new altinator reading 13.4 then after turning the engine over with out revs it drops to 12.5 and the alarm goes off..will read up on this as starting at stopping when fishing would drain the battery in it's current conditon.

All in all thou went ok..worst comes to worst new altinator £90 been offered if it is that.

Should have a few pics to upload later today and maybe middle of next week a catch report.

Ritchie,
The chances are its the diode in the alternator that has gone rather than the alternator itself. May be worth taking it off and having it checked. Cheeper than a new alternator.

To check the alternator , remove the lead from the warning light ...the light should go out. If the light stays on you have an earth fault on the wiring or bulb.

Then run it direct to earth. The warning light should come on, if it doesn't the fault is in the alternator.

I have all the bits needed to wire up a split charge circuit to run your electronics without fear of flattening the starting battery. I would be happy to wire it in for you. All you would need would be a leisure battery to power the electronics and a space to put it in.

Cheers
Dave

Ok Dave, going to have a look at it in the next 2 days, dont feel safe going to see with known faults ont he boat.

Any and all advice well welcomed as it is a lot to take in in a short space of time.
