Day Dreaming....

Well the flowers are comming up at mine too nearly got a snow drop out:)
The outboard is at lynches being serviced so it'll be march for me weather permitting just on the subject of fish numbers anybody got any thoughts on a challenge for the boat season? Maybe species the big five cod, ling, pollock, haddock and coaly(2lb) or numbers any thoughts lads? Roll on the suncream days I'm with tony on the napper burning LOL

Haddock none

Pollack always a few will show up

Ling loads of them

Cod hit and miss

coalie not often but in good numbers what you find a shoal

My perdictions :)

Mid April for me but i never do well on the boat till the end of May anyway.

I'm going all out to catch a sandeel , never seen one off Amble other than in the beaks of puffins flying by. After Ritchie said he caught some and used them for bait last year I'm going to try jigging with some tiny sibikis , see what turns up . We caught some herring last year , there was a massive shoal of them over a wreck we were fishing , they were small , but would have made good pike baits , might see if I can put a few different species of dead baits in my freezer for a pike trip or two.
A cod or two , some ling and pollock to go with them wouldn't go amiss either mind, I've got a cunning plan regards the pollack , whether it will ever see the light of day is another matter though , once I get out there , there never seems enough time to experiment.
Here's hoping whatever I catch this year , the weather is good , it makes all the difference.

:) yeah ray agree about the never enough time bit, was talking to tony this morning and laughing about the very same thing ... we all got "new" things to try but it always follows the same pattern try the "new" thing for a couple of drifts then someone else catches so its quickly back to muppets or hokkais with chunks of mackerel :) :) :) still we`ll give the "new" ideas a try again this season (well, for a drift or two :) )

:) yer if i dnt catch after a few drifts with something new its a "this is cr*p" and gets chucke din the abg until a day when you cant fail and it comes out for a 2nd bash..if still no joy its hooks cut off and over the side :)

I always would love to try more for pollack, i tried drfting at 3kn over rough ground with a 5" reg gill out but only managed codling and mackerle on it no pollack.

May try it again this year when the fishing hit or miss..lets hope it never gets tried then err :)

I'm just laughin to myself about tryin new things your spot on lads it gets binned after two drifts LOL I'm gonna try a tip from one of the kyack lads flowing trace ragworm with 3or so inches hanging off hook fished about 8ft off bottom for pollock apparently really effective.

Sounds like we're all stir crazy lol , the pollock seem to like things a bit faster Ritch ,we've had most of ours on spinners or faster moving baits, I'm trying to make my mind up about buying a downrigger and trolling for them , can't source one in England though and don't want to spend a fortune on having one shipped from america in case it's a 5 minute wonder lol. I'm toying with the idea of making one out of an old rod butt section and a multiplier , I'm pretty sure it will work and someone on this forum had good results trolling for pollock last year , though it was with planing boards I think.
Some days I go out there and the sea is just rough enough to make drifting uncomfortable , but calm enough to motor about in ....... I thought maybe on these days I could troll for pollock (or salmon:rolleyes:) lol, or anything that fancies chasing a lure at 30 knots (kidding :D)

I think you're right with the stir craziness Ray...I've got maybe 2 more shore matches in me before I knock it on the head for the season and get the boat gear ready...sitting here thinking brrrrrrrrrr do I really want to spend fours blanking :D

That's me tony I'm just a pleasure man so my rods are hung now boat season here we come!!;)

..16th March rivers open for coarse fish (thunder storme will have them all in flood) ...

Ray

lol, 3 months out mate, 16th June coarse season starts, 15th March it closes.
But spot on about thunderstorms will wash the rivers out anyway for start of season.

I maybe tempted if i see a few reports from the Tyne with fish in them, the JFK often has a good couple of months in Jan and Feb but guess the weather has killed it for them like everyone.

Still itching to get the engine back on and the batteries fitted n have a little sesh before she is lifted. Go on Norman get yourself out and land a few to get my lazy ass in motion and head out :)

Shows you where my head is at the moment lol, long time since I fished an opening day on the Swale (16th June like you say).
