Digital camera fault

I\'ve got an Olympus Camedia C-160 digital camera which has just ran out of its warranty and has developed a fault.

It works fine, but if you leave the batteries in they are flat within a couple of hours?

Are they repairable (and cost effective to repair) or, like a lot of things today, are they just disposed of and replaced when things go wrong with them?

id go for the cheap option first and make sure the batteries are sound ,even rechargables have a lifespan,i find that one of the biggest probs with digi cameras the batteries dont last long

funny you should say that I have some \"Fuji\" rechargable batteries for mine and some cheap\'o rechargable batteries I got as spares, the cheap ones last longer than the OE batteries :exclam:

I think bri`s right Rob, I`d go with him and try changing the batteries first, (for cheapest you can get) the camera`s probably fine.

Definately not the batteries lads, I put another brand new set of Duracells in this morning and they were dead within 4 hours :(

Switched off Bri. I normally get about that switched on as well, but I\'ve had batteries in for weeks before and they\'ve been fine?

Looks like a new camera then rob, to be honest, technology moves faster than a warranty so probably worth using the ocasion to step up to next grade. :) look forward to the new pics :)

Clean the battery terminals on the camera. It\'s not uncommon for dirt buildup to occur and make the batteries appear dead. If it\'s not the batteries or the terminals (and the camera hasn\'t recently been exposed to moisture) I\'d guess at a short circuit somewhere. Dirty battery terminals are often the cause though! ;)

speaking of batteries.... the one\'s I\'ve got at the minute are cracking, 12pack of AA nimh rechargables (1800ma) from Maplin electronics for a tenner. Can\'t fault them in the digi camera, we went to the Knights Tournament at Belsay last month and I was snapping away from 10am through to after 4pm - only switched to a second set in the last hour and capped off over 300 shots :-)

Rob, Lidl are selling rechargable batteries, 4 for £1.99. I use them in my camera and get about 4 hours out of them. I always carry a spare set in the camera bag.

Rob,

if you log onto dpreview.com you may be able to get some information on your camera from there otherwise i would get in touch with oly uk they will more than likely honour this or may only charge you for postage.
