fished craster yesterday with my 2 sons did,nt really want to go but the lads have got the bug for fishing the ruff stuff since our last trip to newton from the off never once got any gear back ,spooled up twice with new 40lb line quite big rollers coming in then one big one came in and washed my rod & reel on to the rocks no apparrent damage just scratched till i got what seemed to be 2 canny fish on and the reel slosh 30 shv locked up and cost me the fish gutted ,got home stripped it down nothing seems to be wrong with it never mind thats fishing [tight lines]

My personal opinion on Craster in rough conditions, its a waste of time and good bait. If you think about all the kelp weed and rough ground off the rocks moving around nearly the same as the water above, you are going to have a nightmare.
I have made the same mistakes of trying to fish up there in rough conditions, rods knocked over and loss of much gear.

Hard lines mate, it's a place that I have never fished, but I suppose everywhere has it's good & bad points.
Dont let it put you off, just try again.

depends on how big the sea is m8 theres always some were up there that will pull fish out.i can remember last year when the storms were on the waves looked the size ov houses n 2 blokes pulled a bag full out ov the harbour.its a funny place aswell with the creeper waves coming from no were always be on gaurd

hi paul i fished up craster for years since i was a kid no it very well could,nt understand 1 of the above posts about not fishing the kelp when it is rough conditions as that is the best time to fish it there was some other marks as you say but with it only being a small tide and the kids with me i did,nt wnt to wade out airing on the side of caution ,i remember that catch well mate i was checking the harbour out for future when we get a good sea casting straight into the channel, cheers
